I usually only post when I have something to add to a conversation, otherwise, I'd have 1,000 posts of messages like "cool", "that sucks", "I see" and "I don't know".
As for new bands, I have no idea. It seems like a lot of the new stuff in rock (what I hear, anyway) sounds like late 70's - early 80's stuff. I like the music and all, but I want to hear something different, a new style of music, a new way to approach the old "4/4 with a backbeat" formula. That's why I listen to ATD-I, Sparta and The Mars Volta... these days, I'd be more inclined to buy an old Parliment album than something by a new rock band... I'm typing this long 'cause I'm to remember a newer band that's awesome... The only one I can remember is this band The Refused, and they had this song "New Noise" that was really fucking awesome, it was a couple of years ago, the video had weird rabbits and guys messing with mixers and what looked like computers from a 50's sci-fi movie, their album is "The Shape of Things to Come"... never heard the album, but I know the song is great, if not a little older. It's better than most of the stuff out today, though. hope that helped.

I'm very much into Grunge, Manson, Radiohead and Lennon. I used to idolize John Lennon in high school, heh. My favorite bands are The Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, At the Drive-In (of course), Nirvana, The Beatles and all their solo stuff (Though John and George were my favorites), Rancid, Tori Amos, Bjork, and last, but definitely not least, David Bowie, who I'm listening to now. Saw him in concert last night, but I'll post about that in another thread

avenger
is it difficult to get music out there? how about underground music?
|
|
|
Post by Kurtz on Aug 16, 2002 4:27:25 GMT -5
for me it's not It might be for some people ...the thing is because we are not alot of ppl here so all the underground music listeners know eachother..and ther's like a club in Tel-Aviv that they put underground music and some mainstream (depends what you call mainstream)..and you can always find music over the internet..
but really i don't give a fuck if something is mainstream or underground cause if it sounds good and the music lyrics has some serious point and the band wrote their own song and did whatever they wanted as Artists i'll listen to it cause it's Art..and not a product to make money that will fuck up the whole music industry it's hard for artists to compete with products..

I'm right here... Just haven't been posting much, haven't had a whole hell of a lot to say... I'm usually at school from 8am to 6pm, so I don't go online as much...
My sis mailed me her copy of Lateralus to borrow for a while... I'm really liking this album, especially how it flows... the tracks like Mantra and Eon Blue Apocolyps add to the album, it reminds me a lot of Kid A... like metal's answer to Radiohead... I'll have to get it soon for my own copy

i aplogize...

......and cortex boy, please let a professional cut your hair!!

Post by headINcortex on Nov 19, 2002 23:43:09 GMT -5
thats weird that you said that...i actually cut my own hair for about 3 months before i for it cut by a pro. at wal-mart. if you really want a tite edge, go to wal-mart.
not a lot has been up, andy. been working hard on grades cause i slacked for a while. been listening to the same old music. i need to get my lazy ass up and get a new damn cd. suggestions? i have a birthday in less than a month, i just realized today. i'll be turning the big one-five. heh. i've started practicing rudiments and drumming techniques using a metrenome, and it is helping a lot. i play a rudiment starting at a slow speed and increasing the speed once i have the current tempo down. helps me to keep time better and to get faster.
how are you two doing?

Hey, yeah, Midterms sucked... actually have to take one tomorrow on Malcolm X... still haven't read the essay it pertains to, though, heh... Cortex, do you like Danny Carey (Tool)? That guy can tear sh|t up... especially at the end of "The Grudge" from Lateralus... I could never be a Percussionist, I can't keep time without a drumbeat behind me, and two-drummer bands went out in the 80's. I want to have a double-bass band, though, that'd be cool, one bass to lay down the bassline rhythms, and the other, maybe the keyboardist, can play leads on the bass... that'd be different, although Spinal Tap's done it on "Big Bottom".

oh man, danny's awesome. he's got his own little style going on, which rocks. he's not the usual type of dummer for his kind of music. i never heard an effect on cymbals (schism) before him. it sounds like mitch mitchell has an effect on his on axis, but i'm pretty sure its just a glitch in the recording. but yeah, danny can kick it.
heh, "the amp that goes to eleven". 'this is spinal tap' is a great movie. i love the part about the stonehenge song. ever see the SNL when they were the musical guests?

CAREY is awesome. carey is a drummer and a percussionist. people think being a drummer is the same thing, but both titles differ. carey IS both.
can some one tell tell me who played the congas on vaya.#nosmileys

my guess would be tony. unless they brought another person in to do it. i have asked for some stand-up congos this christmas. i want to expand my skills as a pecussionist as well as a drummer. you're right andy, they aren't the same thing at all.
