In my opinion, after listening to Francis the Mute about 3 times in a 6 hours period, one cannot compare the two albums. Both albums deal with different progressions in the Volta's music style. The Mute focuses on more of Omar's puerto Rican heritage bringing forth his and cedrics taste in Salsa music. It also has some what of a Jazz fusion with it. It also bends the rules of any traditional prog rock CD by defucting the norm of having a straight forward break in the track list. Musically, this CD is one of the best that I have ever heard. Even though I still blame Cedric and Omar for the break up of At the Drive-In, I still love them for pushing the music envelope and opening a side of music that has until this point only been touched upon by the greats of Zeppelin and Pink Floyd, two bands of which I can definately link similarities in both Cedrics voice style and omar's guitar wizardry (even though he insists that he was influenced by a great salsa piano player). So anyways, these are my thoughts on the album. Post your own opinion. I would be intrigued to hear what you all think.

that's defuct up...
...just don't tell cedric and omar the whole led zeppelin/pink floyd thing, they won't be too happy, though i think we can all see some similarities (especially to zeppelin in my opinion)...i did actually by ftm and i've listen to it a few times over the weekend...i just can't listen to it straight through, i have to skip the end of track one with the weird high pitched voice thing, all of track two, the very end of track three, all of track four...i can listen to all of cassandra, but i just kind of wish they took about ten minutes out of it...overall, it isn't horrible, though, it's just...pretentious...and i don't throw that word around there a whole lot
as for deloused, it used to me my favorite thing in the world, but i played it out...ftm makes me want to go back and listen to it again, because, well, it might be better for my ADD...
...but really, i still think tremulant is the best thing they've ever done, and i blame alex newport...i don't really know anything about this guy, but he produce vaya, too, and well, that's just about my favorite thing ever...

what's the deal with people calling it Francis?

because it's shorter. Take for example, instead of me calling you a douche bag, I just call you douche

because it's shorter. Take for example, instead of me calling you a douche bag, I just call you douche so it's kind of like me calling you idiot, instead of.... well complete moron is longer so I guess I can't use that.
