Just bought Wiretap Scars, giving it a second consecutive listen right now, and I was wondering what you all think of the different versions of Mye and Cataract. I kinda liked the rawness of the Austere versions, the newer recordings sound a little polished, but fit in more within the context of Wiretap... good album so far, but I can already tell it'll be one of those ones I don't listen to too much at first, then it grows on me and will be one of my favorites in a few months. Same thing happened to me with Rated R by QOTSA.

i feel the same way with first versions of cut your ribbons, the host(collapse), and others. the demos are much more raw. i guess i prefer rawness over studio perfection.#nosmileys

cut your ribbon is a good song, haven't heard anything but the album version, though.

Yeah, the Austere cuts were a lot better, I love raw sounding music. The only "polished" rock albums I really like are White Pony by the Deftones and Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins. I like music that sounds like it was recorded in a bathroom on a Tascam 4 track recorder with a busted amp and a lead singer with a cold and emphysema, but somehow the music sounds great and melodic.

LOL@ Overflowing broken toilet... I have a tascam 4 tracker too... classic recording equipment there, heh. The main thing that irks me about the recording of Mye (not necessarily bad, though) is that Jim uses different vocal inflections while singing, while, on the Austere cut, it was more monotone... The different vocal approach could work, but it sounds like they recorded it in the middle of working on it... it works in the context of the album, though.... you can tell college has started again, I'm breaking out the five dollar words, heh.

what about if you had never heard the earlier version? how would the new one sound to you then? just a wise, ambitious thought.

Exactly, Cortex. If I hadn't heard the Austere version, I'd really like the Wiretap cuts of the songs... it's all in the first impression of the song. Smashing Pumpkins re-recorded Siva from Gish in the BBC studios with John Peel in '92. The song has a little more edge, but it just didn't sound as raw as the original, and there were little stuff that bothered me, but just 'cause I had a different image of the song... I'm not sober tonight, that's why I'm droning

heh... I can hear in "Echodyne Harmonic" how they got the samples and stuff for the de-mix on Austere... I really liked the de-mix, and the original (?) version on the album is just as good, if not better, just a different style... debating over whether I should get the Chilli Peppers' new one or the Queens of the Stone Age new one

What would an ATD-I bong look like, though? Like the satelitte image thing from In/Casino/Out? I like the ones with the red light at the bottom, so it colors the smoke red... haven't seen any with blue light... I'd like that more...

Damn, you're going to make a lot of money... I mean, if they pay these astronomical amounts for the pipe stuffings, imagine what they'd pay for a Omar pipe!! Why, back in my day, a dime bag cost a dime...

i went to this head shop in alabama where they had some kick ass glass pipes and legal herbs and shit. used to, anybody could walk in there and buy em but they got warned by the cops or something and now you gotta be nineteen. beautiful, 90 dollar pipes. it was a cool place.
ever heard that song hey nineteen by steely dan? its about this older guy that meets a teenage girl and she doesn't know any of his music cause she's too young. kinda funny. steely dan are good shit. awesome band to get into. they like to mix jazz and blues, interesting combination. great band.
i dont mean to ramble. i guess my head is in the clouds tonite, hehe.

hey merc man?, would you want the legalization of yesca?......there is some pro's and con's to it. ....(yesca=the light green stuff)
if it was legalized, the gov't would tax it like a motherphucker so we'd have to pay more. and it would be a monopoly because they would annhilate any other source. so they'd have us by the balls and could charge whatever they'd please....but less incarcerations. i get mad when people go in for bud. i think it;s a smaller crime than drunk driving. alcohol impairs driving.
but if we keep it illegal, we'll pay the same going rate, more variety, it's just underground. more of a free market not a monopoly. ........but i don't smoke that s.h.i.t.........i've just seen it in the movies............................j/k

I don't think I'd like for yesca to be legalized, it'd get too expensive, like you said... it'll start becoming acceptable for John Q. Public and Jane Doe to go out in the streets stoned... driving, riding bikes, skating, rollerblading... I mean, I know some people do things like that when they're stoned, but if it became legal, who wouldn't at least try it, then like it and do it with their scotch on the rocks or screwdrivers... then would say "eh, I know I'm stoned, but I could still drive home"... then there'd be stoners in the streets, there'd be stoners everywhere... it'd be anarchy... They'd even give the disease a name... Reefer Madness... Abba-Zabba, you my only friend....
