just earlier this evening i was reminded of how marvelous of an experience i had last week.
last wednesday night, i attended an all night open mic/jam session at a local italian bistro. i spent the majority of the night listening to incredible musicians (most of the crowd seemed to be composed of grad students at the IU music school) playing everything from pop to folk to classical, etc.
eventually, a few of my friends talked me into playing a little, so i asked if anyone cared to do an impromptu jam as i hadn't prepared anything for that night.
i'll stop with the background story, because the truth is simply too amazing. basically, a pianist agreed to come up and play some jazz, so we just improvised the songs as we went along. here's the kicker: it turns out that his father composed the music for the animaniacs and pinky and the brain theme songs.
yes, that is right. i have jammed with the offspring of the man who wrote "they're pinky and the brain. pinky and the brain. one is a genious, the other's insane..."
probably the highlight of my life.
