WAAAYYYYY back in the day, when news of tmv's formation JUST hit, i searched and downloaded any mp3s i could find with their name on it. very few results turned up (this was when napster was cool) and i still have them.
the titles are: Corelli Theme Initial Me Things Fear
there are a few others which are punk/hardcore bands abusing the name, but i can't figure out where these songs come from. its electronic music with what sounds like samples of a female voice from sci-fi movies or something. i actually like the stuff, so i'd like to turn up the name of the project. anyone else know what i am talking about?

nevermind, found the answer with a simple search:
Q: I downloaded a song that doesn't sound at all like Cedric singing. What is this? A: There is a lot of confusion about what songs are actually The Mars Volta and which aren't. Me, Intial, Bunel Home, Bach Song, Corelli Theme, and Things' Fear are by an Italian electronica band called Mars Volta (without the 'the'). State Your Preference, Eat The Sun and Untitled Demo #2 are all mistitled versions of Cicatriz. On Kazaa you can also find dummy songs such as I Cut My Teeth (by The VSS), Glue In Carpet (by The Locust), and Wasting My Air. However, Ambuletz, although it sounds nothing like all their other songs, is indeed a The Mars Volta song.

According to the band, "Volta" was a term used by surrealist filmmaker Federico Fellini to describe a radical change in art and social contexts. "Mars" alludes to the band's love of science fiction. "The" is used to disambiguate the band from a group of European Techno artists that previously took the name "Mars Volta".
