ok this is the story:
2 years ago, a new radio station was born in town and its slogan was "The NEW music radio". For a whole year, they played nu metal and new rock bands like Papa Roach, Limp Bizkit, and others of the same genre. They had that marginal attitude and were making fun of other normal commercial stations. It wasnt so bad, cause they had some underground shows too.
Then, one year later, (probably because they couldnt find new music anymore, or because they were not making enough money) they became the Modern Rock station, but still kept the non-commercial attitude. They played music like Creed, Nickelback, Linkin Park, 311, Sevendust, and started some 80's music shows. There is still something wrong, right?
so today, i went to their site and saw a topic on their message board: Cool fm (the name of the station) is ... so, in a desire to voice my opinion i replied:
"The real problem is that you just play music that had previous succes on MTV. You have to have someone that checks out new bands from ezines, and mags like Rolling Stone and Spin, listen to their music, and play the good one, not the popular one.
ps:People that think this radio is apart from the others are wrong, it's one of the most commercials. The answer to the problem for now is community radio, which is not there for the money, but for the good music."
One of the radio show host replied to me:
"How many people listen to your community radio? Radio is a business. If you don't have any listeners, you don't have any radio! We have to reach as much people as possible while playing the most actual modern rock songs. Each song has been evaluated throughout other moder rock stations across America.
Who are you to judge other people?
You should give your name as program director Keep on listening to your community radio and fuck off."
He is right in a way, but i think people are smart enough to appreciate more underground, independant music. anyways, this shows that there is a deep problem with music these days.

just gotta face the facts, yo. theres not really any radio station that is gonna play music most of us listen too. radio IS a buisness. just like food, clothing, and shelter have all become. thats the way america is. commercialized. the only way to get a station that plays honestly good music, is for someone that is rich and knows whats up to start making them . then still, those stations wont have as many listeners as major, k-rockesque stations have. everything is aimed at mindless, impressionable kids, block-heads, and just all around people who don't care as much about music as you and i. its too bad art isn't taken more seriously, but thats just how it is. we'll just have to settle for our own set of standards. and keep it real in our sweaty, stinky, intimate club venues. thats the way to go anyhooo. peace, yo

this is the number one thing that sucks about living in a small town: two alternitive stations, an oldies station, and a classic rock station. this isn't counting the five hundred country channels. the classic one is ok but the oldies has really bad reception and the two alternitive rock is the same shi*t over and over. five times out of ten, you can change from one of them to the other and hear the same song playing. pretty laughable, huh. in little rock, a good 2 and a half hours away, there is a station that plays a bit of underground, cool local bands and some tool and nirvana and such. hell, its better than nothing, right? not to mention that the one cd store we have totally sucks and has vrtually no cool cd's. it was by a huge stroke of luck that i ever got TEXT last year. all the others i have gotten out of town, and most of them out of state. TEXT, i am the only fan of ATDI and anything like them in a 300 mile radius. sorry to sound like a whiny b*tch, but it SUCKS!

corporate radio sucks . major record labels own these phuck'n stations man. playing the same s.h.i.t. over & over again until the masses start liking this lifeless uncreative bulls.h.i.t. "they" call music. and eMpty TV is also another corrupted source of the music industry. "mainstreaming" the music that is potentially profittable to the sheep. i'm glad underground music is underground, for the fact that the artist has limitless freedom. unlike the major labels that own and imprison the artists true ideas and form them to their liking. so phuck off corporate radio. save us pirate radio.

Hey Paranoid, if you want Machina II, you'd probaby have an easier time getting it from this site: www.spfc.org/news-press/articles.html?content_id=1302 . They have lots of sites where you can download it. I personally don't have a burner or a ripper, I should get a jukebox, the kind that convert CD songs to MP3's.

yo, i've been in texas the last three days, and went to six flags. which explains the absentness of my posting. is absentness a word?
well, halfway through the day at six flags, all the power in the city went out, so all the rides were down and everything. just my luck. but i got a few good ones in before they closed. we left and got a free day pass for a refund.

Magic Mountain kicks ass, Viper was the first roller coaster I ever rode, that's my favorite. Haven't been there in a few years, though, they were still working on Superman last time I went. Up here, they have Six Flags Marineworld by the bay... they have rollercoasters too, haven't been there yet, though... Judas O was a limited edition collection of b-sides and rarities that they released with the Greatest Hits album. Because You Are does kick ass, that's a great one, anyway, I know that on the official site www.smashingpumpkins.com , they have the first few MP3's for download. I don't think all the Judas O's are out, though, so maybe they're still on the shelves

gracias mercury,
i'm ready to burn these puppies, took long enough. you're right about it being bad ass. this would of made a lot of money. personally i like SP's hard s.hit and this collection satisfied my needs.
i used to get in magic mountain free all the time. my friend was like the head of security there so he gave me free tickets. last ride ridden was superman. they have like 2 newer rides. i got to go sometime....did you ever hear about the riot in magic mountain? it was during the rodney king trial. people were stealing s.h.i.t., beating up on people, shooting....i almost went with a girlfriend of mine. crazy s.h.i.t. ...they have metal detectors now cuz of that s.h.i.t.

remember that movie(very old), PUMP UP THE VOLUME where this guy dj'ed this pirate radio station, saying what he wanted, played what he wanted....do you think a punk pirate radio station would be considered selling out?....cuz there is no "real" punk on the radio. totally in the dark(except commercial punk)
|
|
|
Post by MercurySolo on Jul 28, 2002 20:21:07 GMT -5
Yeah, I heard about that riot. Actually, just a couple of months ago, there was a mad riot at Marineworld, something during Grad Nite or Prom Nite or something like that. Last month, a girl fell out of the roller coaster there... don't know if I'll be making any trips soon.
Being on a Pirated Punk Radio station wouldn't be selling out, I think, unless the Pirate station got paid cash from major labels to play their shit. As long as it's based on getting the good music out there, and not on making massive amounts of money and playing the same 40 songs over and over again, it'd be fine.
