Well, I was online a while back looking for Mars Volta songs, and as I imagine many people did, discovered many songs decidedly not by Cedric and company. But I just read somewhere that the songs like Banuel and Bach are in fact by a Mars Volta, but not THE Mars Volta, so in a sense they are not fake tracks as I'd assumed they were. So that brings me to my question: does anyone know what the Mars Volta means, or refers to? I couldn't find it in the dictionary and looking up the two words separately didn't bring any clarity to the question. I figure it's got to have some more meaning than random cool-sounding-word-combinations if two different bands have essentially the same name. And on a separate note, I just downloaded the studio version of inertiatic (I had thought there was only the live one) and was blown away, if you haven't checked that out, download it NOW, it's my favorite song by them now, not delving into the aimless jamming that was a bit too present on Tremulant, nor the overly funky keyboards and is simply catchy as hell. People who have complained about Cedric's voice in the past should appreciate his silky smooth wail now, you can really tell he's been working on becoming better at melody (even though I loved his past style just as much, if not more).

That was hell of a good post by the way. Though i cant shed any light on your questions. Instead i think i'll add more questions: I downloaded every 'mars volta' song on winMX i could but now im thinking i downloaded a few 'mars volta' songs instead of 'the mars volta'. are the following songs by 'mars volta' and not 'the mars volta' - me, bunuel home, things fear, defacto fingertrap and corelli theme. And yeah, i have wasted quite a time downloading stuff that aint even by cedric and crew. SIGH

Unless it's pushed back, the album will be released on June 3rd, and they will be opening for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, there are already a bunch of dates announced, but they haven't announced anything for the west coast yet, which is where I live. I had the problem with the multiple names for the same tracks, which sucked extra bad spending all those hours downloading the same song over and over on a 56k. For the longest time, I didn't like Tremulent because I thought the Cicatrix was Cut that City, and it made the album overall too mellow for my taste. I eventually read a review the described the first track which sounded nothing like the song I was listening too and started too look for the correct song. Anyways, Cicatrix isn't a bad song, but being a demo, it doesn't feel fully realized. I actually like the live version a lot better, it feels more urgent, and cedrik's vocals are amazing during the chorus, crying out in a trembling scream instead of the chant on the demo. I would recommend checking that song out too, and hope that if it makes the final cut on the album, Cedrik will belt out the chorus like the does live.

Q: Why the name The Mars Volta? A: It is a reference to films of Italian film maker Federico Fellini. from www.inertiatic.comSo I guess that explains that...sort of. I'll have to look up who Federico Fellini is, and what relation the name has to his work and maybe what inspired the band to pick the name. It's too bad the album was pushed back two weeks, but that's really not that long, and once it's released, everyone will forget what a pain it was to wait through the delays.

And, one more comment, my god, if you thought ATDI's lyrics were esoteric, see if you can make any sense out of the Mars Volta's. Maybe I'm stupid, but I don't even know half of the words Cedric's using. But I'm not really complaining, because there is something magical about them, it may come off as pretentious to some people, but the way the words fit together is simply beautiful in my opinion.

On second thought, actually most of the words are words I know, Cedric is just combining them to make them into new words.

I found in on WinMX, probably any file sharing program will work. You just have to search around a bit, but it shouldn't be too hard to find on any p2p network.

There is alot of things that differ Mac From PC. First of all The PC is right now barely hitting the 64 bit mark, But Mac has been at 256 bit for a while now. I am pro Mac but it has alot less software support than PC do. I would say that Mac is a ton better to work with over PC(software wise).Mac hardware troubleshooting kind of sucks because it is all proprietary electronics. Other than that they are all good.
