i've done this thread because i've decided to become a solo artist instead of trying to start a band because i have still to find someone with similar taste in music...
for example...some guy i know has just started learning to play guitar and wanted me in his band which would have been ok.
but earlier in the year he was trying to convince Good Charlotte are amazing - "i'll make you listen to it and you'll realise how good they are!!!"
mmm....
you guys are the closest to me in terms of musical taste but you're still pretty far off (i think) because i'm also into stuff that's nothing like rock and you probably wouldn't like. anyone like aphex twin?
but anywayz i want to hear if you're also surrounded by friends with awful taste...

a lot of my friends are into music that i dont like... a lot of my friends like rap and hip-hop, punk pop, straight pop... but i dont hate on them because they dont like the same type of music i like. and on the other hand, a lot of my friends like the same type of music as i do, so it all balances out.

WHOAH!!!!! is this guy a miracle worker? but i feel the same. here where i reside at, no one i know likes the music i enjoy. my lady detests my music, and that sucks. i cannot relate to her, musicwise. but, fuck it.

It's a little egostistical to think your musical taste is unique. Most people won't share your views or tastes, but that's true with everything, you really just have to seek them out. Most people listen to a lot of non rock music, whether they consciously perceive it or not. Rock was orginally the bastard child of blues and country, or gospel and country, something like that, but it's that genre bending which eventually creates a new genre a few generations down the road. Even though the building blocks of rock are still in place, it's a very different animal than it was 40 years ago.

who'd have thought i'd hear someone talking Bjork on a board like this?!
my brothers is in love with bjork as much as i am with atdi and tmv... so that means he's bought every album all the single videos and the box set with live versions of pretty much every song
but i like bjork quite a lot...some of her songs are just amazing, but she's also crazy...all you need to do to see that is look at the video for its so quiet
sigur ross? i like the first song of an album my brother's got but i still have to give the whole album a proper listen

most of my friends like one armed scissor and that's it but people who actually like atdi and most of their songs do have a wide range of taste
someone i know who liked atdi was also into smiths, bjork and tricky but he was the sort of person you wouldn't expect to...

Yes must be true. I like many types really as long as its top class. I listen to a lot of 1960s 'Folk Revival' stuff like Bob Dylan, The Band, Simon & Garfukle (continued by Van Morrison) in addition to the original Woody Guthrie tunes. I love 50s modal jazz like miles Davis and John Coltraine, but also West Coast cool like Chet Baker (who, if you don't know, makes the most romantic music-try it out on your beaus!). British guitar pop of Smiths - Stone Roses - Oasis and the whole Britpop era speaks for itself. Simply great. I don't like rap much but occasionaly amazing acts like the Fugees come along. One of my favourite styles is the New Wave movement of people like Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson. Chaeck it our. It's solid original greatness. And obviously there's bands like Trail of Dead and ATDI and QOTSA. And for some reason I like the Jamaican Dance-Hall music of Sean (da) Paul
But no one sees eye to eye with me on all that.

ha-ha, here in moscow (my city in russia) i don't know anyone who likes atdi... but a girl from my band (she's guitarist) likes HIM and placebo... i don't like this bands. and it seems like she don't ever heard about who the fuck is atdi... i wrote a review for "relationship of command" for online music shop and in few days i had received the letter from one guy and he was writing that my review was so great, so great... and he was agreed with it. another guy wrote to me that after reading this review he very want to buy an album... it is really shitty when no one from your band don't listening music that you like, and when they even haven't hear about it. mmmm... sorry for my english
